Decorating Porches for Fall

Decorating Porches for Fall

Here in North Carolina, warm temperatures are (finally) giving way to autumn weather. Leaves are changing and bright summer gardens are making the transition for winter. But don’t put your gardening tools away just yet! Just because cooler months are ahead doesn’t mean your front entrance and back porch spaces should lack color and interest.

There are several ways you can dress up the outside of your home when the colder season starts. Here are some great tips from Southern Living and HGTV for beautiful outside winter spaces:

  • Plant pansies and violas to in pots to boost growth. These smaller blooms work well together and pair well with other plants!
  • Stack varying sizes of pots to create a multi-dimensional look. Plant colorful blooms to catch company’s eye at your front door.
  • Buy a unique planter like this one! No matter your style—antique, modern, contemporary, etc.—you can create a beautiful look at the entrance or back porch of your home with an interesting pot or vase.
  • Choose a warm color palette. Yellow and red pansies and violas make for a perfect color arrangement in contrast to the crisp and cool outdoors.
  • Pair blooms with gorgeous and easy to maintain herbs. The bright colored flowers add color while the herbs are lush and provide depth to your arrangement.
  • Use winter whites. White violas and pansies work well with lush, green foliage such as sage.
  • Incorporate ornamental cabbages and kales. These annual plants add diverse and interesting textures as well as pops of color to any winter garden.
