Ways to Give Back in the Triangle

Ways to Give Back in the Triangle
If you are looking for ways to give back, get out and about and meet new people, volunteering is a great way to get involved.  Whether you are looking for a one-time volunteer opportunity this spring or a long-term relationship with an organization, there are plenty of options in the Triangle. We’ve put together a list to help you find the perfect opportunity for the whole family.
Rise Against Hunger
Previously called Stop Hunger Now, Rise Against Hunger is an international organization focused on ending world hunger in our lifetime. Rise Against Hunger’s headquarters is located conveniently in Raleigh and there are plenty of volunteer opportunities to choose from, such as hosting a meal packaging event or visiting their warehouse to help pack meals.
The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army has been serving the people of Wake County since 1887. They currently provide food, clothing, and shelter for those who are in need. There are several different ways to get involved with the Salvation Army. Helping with tutoring, sports, music and arts and organizing are just a few examples. The Salvation Army is a great fit for everyone to help out.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization whose mission is to bring people together through new affordable homes and hopeful communities. Habitat for Humanity builds safe, affordable homes for those in need, as well as offers financial literacy courses for individuals and families. Volunteering opportunities in Wake County include visiting a construction site and working in their ReStore.
Meals on Wheels
The Meals on Wheels organization has been serving nutritious meals to homebound and disabled senior adults of Wake County since 1974. They currently have over 2,200 volunteers working to serve others on a weekly basis, and are always in need of more help.
Families Moving Forward
The organization Families Moving Forward is offering temporary housing to families facing homelessness in the Raleigh-Durham area. At Families Moving Forward, there are volunteer opportunities for both individuals and large groups or families. You can volunteer directly by serving meals or leading a meeting, or indirectly by working in their storage facility. Find your place at Families Moving Forward here.
